It’s Alive! A look at Epic Universe’s Monster Animated Figures

Universal electrified us with some terrifyingly alive animated figures soon after

announcing the opening date for Universal’s Epic Universe in Orlando, FL (circle the

day May 22, 2025 on your calendars!).

What is the ride?

“In “Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment,” Dr. Victoria Frankenstein continues the work of her ancestors deep below the family estate. A demonstration of her experiments to control monsters goes awry when Dracula leads a revolt of enraged monsters including The Wolf Man, The Mummy, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and more.”

The Animated Figures

Said to be Universal’s most terrifying attraction, Monsters Unchained houses 14 of the most life-like animated figures, some of which include Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, the Wolf Man, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. The figures’ fast and cutting edge movements not only rival but go above and beyond those of the Shaman of Songs in Disney’s “Na Vi River Journey” at Animal Kingdom.
Don’t believe us? Take a look below…if you dare:

Frankenstein

Standing at nine feet tall and weighing over 800 pounds, only fire can throw Frankenstein’s Monster off his bolt. This ginormous animated figure

greets guests in the attraction’s pre-show as he actually walks inside of Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s Lab.

Dracula

Leader of a mob of monsters, the frightening Dracula takes his fate into his own wings, and terrorizes not only the mansion but also the guests.

While details of size and weight were not revealed for the creature of the night, guests will encounter the most dangerous monster and his skin

piercing fangs throughout the ride.

The Wolf Man

With jagged claws, the horrifying Wolf Man takes no prisoners, only meals. As guests find their way out of the catacombs, they’ll have to dodge

the Wolf Man’s skin piercing canines or become his next meal.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon

Nicknamed the “Gill-man,” the Creature from the Black Lagoon joins the fun forcing guests to not only fear what’s inside the mansion but also

what lurks within the depths its very own Black Lagoon.

Peter Carsillo, the Creative Director for Dark Universe, believes these animated figures to “exceed beyond everyone’s wildest expectations for

what an animated figure can do.”

The only question left?

Can all 14 of these technologically advanced animated figures stand the test of time? Or will some of their life-like movements be pulled back so the figures last longer? No matter how advanced the movements though, guests are sure to be terrified as they hope to survive Universal’s classic monsters on “Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment.”

The Land

But of course, guests who decide to feel braver on another day are able to enjoy the other fun attractions within Dark Universe. Between meet-and-greets with Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s Monster and the beautiful Bride of Frankenstein to encounters with other “unusual inhabitants” like Ygor, the Invisible Man, an eccentric monster hunter, and a skilled musician, guests of all ages and fear-levels are welcomed into Epic Universe’s Dark Universe.
